Crocus Hike & Running One-Day Trip ( Valea Sambetei Mountains )

1 hour

Easy

This one-day Făgăraș Mountains trip offers a blend of nature, light adventure, and culture, featuring the spring crocus bloom in Sâmbăta Valley and a visit to Arsenie Boca Hermitage.

April brings to the Făgăraș Mountains one of the most beautiful and lesser-known spectacles of nature: the carpet of wild crocuses blooming in Sâmbăta Valley. Add to this fairytale setting a visit to Arsenie Boca’s Hermitage—a place of deep spiritual significance for many Romanians—and you get a truly special day.

This trip is designed as a relaxed, easy-going day, without time pressure or rushing—unless you want otherwise, of course. Since our group also includes those who crave a bit of adrenaline in the mountains, we’ve created two teams with different routes. We start together, each group enjoys its own adventure, and we reunite at the end.

The Two Teams

You choose your team before departure. Both are easy in terms of intensity—the difference lies in distance and type of movement.

Hiking Team

  • Distance: ~10 km
  • Elevation gain: ~500 m
  • Pace: relaxed, with breaks

Running Team

  • Distance: ~15 km
  • Elevation gain: ~700 m
  • Type: trail running
  • Pace: easy, no pressure

The running team starts from Pastrăvăria Popas Sâmbăta, while the hiking team begins where the forest road ends.

Both routes lead to the same highlight: the crocuses and the hermitage.
